Japan is well-known for its capsule hotels, and lately more high-end and luxurious capsule hotels are popping up. The Millennials is one of these hotels. As you can tell by the name, the main audience they are targeting is young millennials. The design of the whole hotel is modern, chic and clean. It really is like an upmarket capsule hotel or hostel, with separate rooms and shared facilities. On a recent trip to Kyoto I had a chance to stay at this place, so let’s have a closer look at what this hotel has to offer for its guests.
The “Room”
The room is small, enough space to fit a queen sized bed. The bed can change between bed mode and couch mode. Couch mode leaves enough room at the front of the room to get changed and organise your luggage. It is also great if you just want to lounge around in your room with some back support. There is a storage area under the beds that can just be pulled out and all your luggage is hidden under the bed. The mattress was very comfortable to sleep on. Privacy is provided by a screen that can be pulled down, much like a garage door. It is only thin so noise can still travel through quite easily.

You can also book a room that comes with a projector that projects onto the back of screen. Overall, they have made excellent use of the space and made it very comfortable for a reasonable price.

The rooms come with a nice amenity kit on the bed consisting of:

- Slippers
- Toiletries

Facilities
To make room prices more reasonable like a hostel or capsule hotel many of the facilities are shared, but they are all kept in great condition.
Common Room
The common room can be found of the top floor of the building. Additionally there is a small roof space, but there is not much up there except for a smoking area. In the common room you can get a bit of view of Kyoto but it isn’t very high up. They have a large full featured kitchen for guests to use. And one big draw card is the free beer at happy hour for all guests. You heard right, free beer for guests staying at the hotel. So make sure you are there for happy hour to enjoy the common room and maybe mingle with the other guests.

The bathroom and shower facilities keep the same design theme being sleek and modern. They are all kept nice and clean. They even have a washing machine and dryer for those who need to get some washing done.

Co-working Space
At the common room floor they also offer a co-working space available for people just dropping in or even more permanent guests. They offer a few plans for drop ins and monthly users, which can give you access to naps and meeting rooms if you need it. The co-working space users can also benefit from the free beer at happy hour.

Summary
Overall my stay in the hotel was fantastic, the price was reasonable for excellent facilities. My money went towards the most important parts I needed from a hotel. The free beer was another nice perk for staying here. I would recommend this place for any solo travelers making their way through Kyoto. Unfortunately, they don’t currently offer any couples “rooms”, but I think they would be a great additions for them in the future.
