A couple of days ago I (and probably many other American Express card members) received an email update addressed to a number. I noticed this, read the update and went about my day as I thought this was just glitch in their email system sending a card number instead of name. However the other day AMEX sent another email, apologising for calling their members by a number.
They stressed that the number was not the members’ card number so I can only assume it is the members internal ID in their system. While I wasn’t worried about a breach (or offended at being thought of as a number), the quick response and transparency from American Express is welcome. It seems a simple gesture to reassure their members, not requiring much effort on their end. But it is a refreshing action in contrast to a lot of companies these days that struggle to have good communication with their customers. So props to AMEX!
Did you receive this email as well? Where you worried or concerned about the prior email sent to a number? Let us know in the comments below. If you aren’t an American Express card member yet, we would recommend looking into it. Their cards can provide great value in terms of points and perks. They often also run bonus points on sigh up, like this deal.
