Avianca LifeMiles, the Colombian flag carrier’s frequent flyer program, is running another points buying promotion! You can get up to a 125% bonus when purchasing points during this promotion. This is a great opportunity to get closer to your dream holiday! This promotion is running until the 27/02/2020, so get in quick. However this isn’t the best deal LifeMiles has offered recently. Just a couple of months ago they were offering a 145% bonus. So it might pay to wait for a better promotion.
How does the promotion work?
Points can be purchased in lots of 1,000 at ~$40.26 USD, which is $58.7 AUD currently. The starting rate for points is 5.87 cents per point which is quite expensive and won’t get you any great value redemptions. Once you start purchasing more points, value increases greatly due to the bonuses. At the maximum amount of 200,000 you would spend $8,052 USD ($11,986.21 AUD) however you would receive another 250,000, giving you a total of 450,000 LifeMiles points. This gives you a points purchase rate of 1.78 US cents (2.66 Australian cents) per point, which is fantastic. However, this is a higher rate than the points you can get through Club LifeMiles. But you can purchase much more points here and will still allow you to make some valuable redemptions.
Be sure to check with your bank as I have heard reports of bank thinking the transactions are fraud due to them generally being large and coming form overseas. Also LifeMiles have limits on how many points you can purchase per year. The limit for 2020 appears to be 480,000 including any bonuses.
Points Range | Bonus |
1,000 – 10,000 | 100% |
11,000 – 50,000 | 105% |
51,000 – 100,000 | 115% |
101,000 – 200,000 | 125% |
Avianca LifeMiles Redemption
The most common redemption target for most LifeMilers will likely be a redemption on a Star Alliance partner. Partners like Singapore Airlines, Asiana Airlines, Lufthansa and United Airlines are all available to be booked. You can check the points redemption chart below for routes on Star Alliance partners. Most redemptions should be able to be booked online through Avianca’s web portal. However if you run into any issues you may need to call and remember to mention there was issues with the website otherwise you may get charged a phone booking fee.
If you haven’t already signed up for Avianca’s LifeMiles program, you can go here to sign up today. Again this promotion is finishing up on 27/02/2020, so make sure you get in before it finishes. Have you taken advantage of this promotion? Or any other of LifeMiles promotions? We would love to hear about it and any great redemptions you have made.
