Aerotel – Mactan-Cebu Airport Review

I’ve never stayed in a airport hotel before so this was my first time to stay in one. I arrived at Mactan-Cebu airport around 2am and didn’t get out til around 3am. I hadn’t planned anything in advance as I wasn’t sure what I was going to do on arrival. Plus I thought worse comes to worse I’ll book in at a hostel or sleep in the airport. As I was planning to get on a ferry later that day and the sleeping situation in the airport wasn’t great, and then I saw the Aerotel hotel.

So I thought i would give it a go. I booked a single room for 3 hours which cost 1,500 PHP (~$45 AUD). They were actually quite busy so I had to wait around 20 minutes while they prepared a room for me. They even offered me tea or coffee from a small refreshments table. Once the room was ready, they let me in for my 3 hours of sleep!

The room

The single room was probably about 2.5 metres by 4 metres in size. Plenty of room for a comfy bed and a private bathroom and shower. They also offer double rooms which were slightly larger. The bed was very comfortable and I had no issues with the temperature. The rooms weren’t completely sound proof and I could hear some noises outside. So if you a sensitive to noise perhaps bring some ear plugs. There was enough room to store my bags and get changed next to the bed so no issues with the size of the room. Although if you have a large suitcase it might get a little tight.

The shower and private bathroom were a welcome amenity when entering the room. The shower was very nice, hot water, no complaints here. I basically took a shower and went straight to sleep as I only had three hours booked.

Summary

Staying at the Aerotel was a much better alternative than the benches located outside the airport:

The room was great and I got a good three hours of sleep which makes it well worth it since I didn’t get much on my flight in. I thought afterwards it probably would’ve been better to book six hours as it was only 500 PHP (~$15 AUD) more and I could’ve got some more sleep. However at the time I was just thinking to leave the airport early in the more and get on with my trip. Staying at the Aerotel was well worth it, and I would recommend it to others arriving on red-eye flights to Mactan-Cebu airport.
