Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Gold Temporary Lounge T3 – Changi Airport (Marhaba Lounge)

I recently transited through Singapore Changi airport on a flight through to Brisbane and had the chance to stop in at the temporary KrisFlyer Gold Lounge in Terminal 3.

While Singapore Airlines (SIA) is refurbishing all its lounges in Terminal 3 they have arranged for some temporary lounges for guests to use. The temporary KrisFlyer Gold lounge is actually shared with the new Marhaba lounge (which is the new dnata lounge), with a separate entrance for SIA guests. This temporary space will be in place until mid-2021 when the refurbishments are completed. Unfortunately this lounge gets very busy. This is mainly due to the area being shared with the Marhaba lounge; and the total area being smaller than both the previous KrisFlyer Gold and dnata lounges.

Access

There are a number of ways you can access this lounge:

  • KrisFlyer Elite Gold member can access this lounge before traveling on an economy class fare.
  • Virgin Australia Gold members can also access this lounge before traveling on an economy class fare.
  • Star Alliance Gold members also have access to this lounge.
  • Other Singapore Airlines partners may also offer lounge entitlements.

If you have a higher level of status or flying business/first class you can check out the nicer SilverKris Business, First and Private Room lounges.

Food and Drinks

Fortunately they provide a large range of food, most of it standard airport lounge fare. Hot meals in bain-maries, salad bar, sandwiches, soups and some desserts. There was plenty of food even though there were heaps of people in the lounge. I saw many staff working and restocking all the food so it was always there to consume. The quality was pretty standard for a airport lounge.

They also have a snacks section with various nuts and cookies as well as a large fruit bowl for those who enjoy their fruit.

Again a huge range of drinks on often, plenty of varieties of beer and wine, even spirits for those who want an alcoholic drink. They also have plenty of soft drinks and sparkling water as well as juice/infused water station. I notice more and more lounges are doing the infused water which I think is great, I love it.

The lounge of course contains self serve coffee machines and packet of tea and coffee if you fancy that.

Seating

There was a lot of seating in the lounge, and it was 95% full while I was there. I’m guessing this lounge would be quite busy for most of its hours of operation considering the size of the space and the ease of access through KrisFlyer or Marhaba. The lounge contained are few different types of seats around the lounge with plenty of power points for charging devices which is great.

Amenities

This lounge has toilets! The previous KrisFlyer Gold Lounge was notorious for not having any toilets in its space. Fortunately there are toilets and even showers if you decide you want to freshen up. As mentioned plenty of power points as well as tables if you want to get some work done on a laptop.

Summary

Better in some ways to the previous KrisFlyer Gold Lounge, notably the inclusion of toilets and showers within the lounge space. The food, drinks and seating is all adequate and expected for this level of lounge. The main issue was the busyness due to the size and easy avenues of access. I imagine that it will be much nicer when Singapore Airlines completes its new lounge precinct in the next couple of years.
