Perhaps I’m not quite at ultralgiht, but that is my end goal. To get my travel kit down to the ultralight essentials. The intention is to make traveling simpler and easier, saving more time for the important part of experiencing traveling. Many others have discussed the benefits of ultralight travels and I have been influenced by their writing and gear. Here are a few of my favourite ultralight gear lists:
- Tynan (2008 pt. 1, 2008 pt. 2, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019)
- Half The Clothes
- Rafal
- Regev Elya
This list will be an iterative process as I find and acquire better gear that fits my needs. I will try to keep track of all items that have been retired at the bottom if you are interested or want to find something you saw on this list a while ago. Click here to jump there now.
Lets get into the good stuff, the ultralight travel gear!
Bag
Tom Bihn Synapse 25
This is great bag for travel and extremely high quality. The materials and construction are top-notch. The bag design and organisation are fantastic for fitting all your travel gear in to one bag. There are many proponents of this bag and is quite popular among the ultralight travel community. I have a few gripes with this bag however; it can feel heavy for it’s size sometimes and the main compartment doesn’t open as far as I’d like it too. Additionally, the “laptop” sleeve in the main compartment is sometimes difficult to get stuff in and out.
I also think I should’ve got the 19L version as this one is too big for 90% of the occasions I use it. Overall, it is a great bag, Tom Bihn do a great job constructing these bags. I am also interested in a few of there other products however shipping is a bit cost-prohibitive to Australia. Luckily I got this on a trip to Seattle, where their workshop is located :).
