Once again Velocity is offering another booster when buying Velocity points – 20%. This looks to be a similar deal to the one they promoted in June which we covered as well. This deal is ending on 31st October 2019, so get in now for some extra points!
How many Velocity bonus points can I get?
There are three tiers of points boost in this offer – 10%, 15% and 20%. The more points you buy, the more bonus you get. Points start at $36 for 1,000 points which should also get you a 100 point bonus. Buying the maximum amount of 250,000 points will cost $5,850 with a 50,000 point bonus. That works out to be 1.95 cents per point, which could be great value if you manage some value redemptions. The tiers are also outlined in the picture below.
What can you use 100,000 Velocity points for?
- For 93,000 points you can travel on 6 one-way business class tickets, between Sydney and Brisbane or Melbourne. Particularly good if flights are expensive when you are looking at booking.
- Redeem 59,500 points for a one way business class flight from Sydney to Hong Kong. This allows you access to Virgin Australia’s esteemed ‘The Business’ for a reasonable points cost. Although with the current situation in Hong Kong, take the necessary precautions.
- Also spending 59,500 points, you could potentially use it on a one way business class flight between Brisbane and Tokyo. This is dependent on Virgin Australia getting one of the new slots at Tokyo Haneda airport. We believe this is quite likely, and flights would start March 2020.
- You could also transfer your points to Singapore Airlines (with a penalty) to try and find a good redemption. Using their monthly spontaneous escapes deals, you can find some great deals.
- You could purchase items from the rewards store, but we would only recommend this is you really need it or don’t have a need to fly as these redemptions have notoriously bad value.
Again this deal will mostly benefit those members already have a planned redemption and just need extra points to get over the line. It could also be worth it if you buy the maximum amount and hold out for some great value flights. However you must be comfortable with risk that the Velocity program might get devalued. Velocity have recently done this by increasing carrier charges for reward flights. You can see our write up on the situation here.
Remember the deal ends on 31 Oct 2019, so go here now if you think you can benefit from this boost.
